Senator Gary Hooser and Representative Mina Morita are urging people to boycott the Superferry. Sen. Hooser says,"It's not in the best interest of Kauai" and Rep. Morita states, "The Department of Transportation abused its discretionary authority when they did not require an EIS."

There are dozens of reason not to take the Superferry, but for many, it is the risk of fatal collisions with whales that is the most compelling reason.

To protect whales and other marine life, please do not take the Superferry.
Baby whales swim above their mothers, close to the surface making them most vulnerable to strikes. They won't have a chance of getting out of the way of the speeding Superferry.

Superferries cannot divert their course quickly enough nor can whales swim fast enough to avoid the hulls reaching 14 feet into the ocean which act like razors at high speeds.

Dolphins, Hawaiian monk seals, smaller whales species, and sea turtles are also put at great risk.

Whale deaths went from 1 or 2 every two years to 7 every year in the Canary Islands when high-speed ferries started operating. You can save lives of whales and marine life in the Hawaiian Islands by boycotting the Superferry.
