Obama Speech on Race Relations

by Blake Drolsen on 20 March 2008

Its been a while since I have sent out a mass email to my friends, but I have come across something I really think should be shared broadly. Its a video of Barack Obama speech in Philadelphia from a couple of days ago. You may not want to vote for him, or even a democrat, but I do think it is a speech worth watching. The reason I believe this is for the first time in my life I have seen a political candidate respond to attempts to create fear and division about their candidacy head on, and to also address the deeper issues underneath it (in this case regarding the inflammatory comments his pastor made).

He talked to us as intelligent beings, not as mindless drones needing a 30 second slogan. He didn't cut and run....

To me it was a historic speech, with his candidacy on the line, he took the high road, and courageously addressed the underly issue of race and racism in America, something he could have tried to not talk about. I felt real emotion and conviction coming thru.. Again, whether you support him or not, I do feel its a video worth watching, because you will not get a full understanding of what was said from clips on the nightly news, and with the magic of the internet we can watch the speech directly and make up our own minds.

Feel free to let me know what you think, and if you like it, forward it along. If you want to flame me, please watch the video first. Its 37 minutes long, and really gets going in the middle of the speech. Also, if you want to be removed from my friends email list, please let me know.....
