Hawai`i Environmental Justice Initiative Meeting

WHEN:

Kapa`a Neighborhood Center, Kapaa

SPONSOR:
The Sierra Club Kaua`i Group in collaboration with the Council will host a community meeting to identify issues and address negative impacts.

The State of Hawai`i Environmental Council is responsible for implementing the Environmental Justice Initiative – to define what environmental justice means for Hawai`i and to develop a guidance document that addresses environmental justice in all phases of the environmental review process.

Input from community members, government agencies, planning consultants, Native Hawaiian groups, environmental groups, environmental lawyers, developers, and academia is needed from all islands for a report that will go to the Legislature January 2008.

Refreshments - Free Admission

Hawai`i currently does not have any laws that require the evaluation of disproportionate negative impacts to human health or the environment on Native Hawaiian, minority, and low-income populations.
