Stedman Road Buffalo
Drinking from a steel tub,
confined by barbed wire,
the buffalo awaits grilling.

A small herd of buffalo go to pasture from this barn. They are raised for their meat. Even though the nearest big city is named Buffalo and we know that the buffalo did pass across Chautauqua County long before Europeans, it seemed odd to see this herd chewing grass and to listen for the echo of their thundering hooves. This farm is on Stedman Road west of Stebbins Road in the town of Sherman, and the view is to the southeast.
