About the concert: "Wintersongs" was first produced for NPR in 2001. Among the songs are ancient Bulgarian folk carols sung in their traditional antiphonal style, ancient Latvian winter solstice songs, a poignant 19 century Moravian carol, a sublime 12th century Georgian hymn to the Virgin, and a collection of joyful Ukranian New Year songs.
