FIND THE ANTIDOTE
a malignant malaise creeps
along America's dumbed down
central nervous system
just go to the tapes of
vice president Mr. Burns
licking his crooked lips as
the Bush barbie dolls perform
their stepford daughters-
Karl Rove vaudevillia on
the stage belly of the
Republican party cultshow
what I hear is the
gut freezing subliminal screech of
the Propaganda Troll:
"I HAVE TAKEN HOSTAGE THE
VERY SOUL OF
THE AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT
I WILL CUT OFF ITS
UNAWARE HEAD IF
I DON'T HEAR
WILD APPLAUSE ON
TONIGHT'S BOOBTUBE SOUNDBITES!"
sleep brings nightmares of
testosterone overdosed
Fox network suits
brainstorming camera angles for
this metaphoric beheading
drooling over the chance to
enact a ratings coup
against Al-Jazeera
a Clorox resistant shitstain on
the history of large events at
Madison Square Garden was
just now rendered by
this RNC shot of
genetically empowered superthorazine
into every synapse connecting
every mass media addicted
American
to every other
rational earthly organism

I just pounded out this one-shot poem/rant after alternating between gritting my teeth and guffawing out loud while watching the RNC.

Sometimes I do that just to help quiet the cacophony of voices pinging around my little brain. If you like, add it to your website so people will know there's one more closet politico-word gangster lunatic keepin' his eye on the BIG SHOW from the peace and quiet of Hanapepe Town.

Just forwarded the following email to you to show you the high level of emotion that is emerging in N.Y. around this convention travesty. This is from my close friend Carl Watson, an accomplished writer, journeyman banjo player, part-time eccentric, now completing his doctorate in English Lit at City University in N.Y. and teaching writing and literature courses to undergrads there.

He and I were together outside the '92 Dem convention at Madison Square Garden, supporting groups demonstrating for inclusion of Green and other party participation in the debates and national electoral process. I sent him my poetic take on the RNC and
this is his response.

Rudy,

Thanks for the poem!!. It is hell here knowing what's is going to happen. The people of new york city are banding together like I have never seen before. Marching in the streets. Holding vigils. Singing. People of every age and color and creed. It is an amazing energy. I am out there every day. Tonight we surround the garden to let them know that our voices won't be stopped.
The time has come.
